With Easter coming up and the nice weather finally happening, I wanted to bring up dresses! Anyone that knows me personally isn’t surprised right now… Dresses are definitely my go-to. 🙂 I avoid wearing jeans when I can and it’s difficult to find shorts that are the right length. I still have friends that ask me all the time how I wear dresses to playdates and park outings. They think dresses = church or formal occasions. THAT IS A TOTAL MISCONCEPTION. As a mom, I’m working from 7am to midnight and somedays earlier when I’m at the gym. Mom-ing is my job and although I don’t get paid to do this (Evan says, of course I do, I get his whole check :p lol) I AM at work and one of my uniform staples is what I call the “Everyday Dress”. Throwing on a dress is easy and totally comfortable to do MOST mom stuff.
Here are my dress-wearing mom tips:
- Simple in Solids or Pretty in Prints
Comfortable: For me comfort means, not having to pull the skirt down because it’s too short. This also means not having to pull up the neckline up because it’s too low, and readjusting the waistline because of clingy fabrics. Some of my favorite casual dress fabrics are: Rayon, Jersey/Cotton blends, small percentages of Spandex and Viscose. The Rayon and Viscose hold up so well for years. You can wear and wash them over and over without the pilling, stretching and fading you get in other fabrics. Comfort goes for shoes too! Wear these dresses with converse, cute tennies, strappy sandals, and flip flops!
Resilient: Making sure it’s resilient when mom-ing means it can wear and wash easily. Hand-washing is kind of a deal-breaker for me when I’m scouting out Everyday Dresses. In my family we say, “Ain’t nobody got time fo’ dat” because there is no way around the fact that it will get dirty. Trying to keep yourself looking perfect and having little ones is hard to do. I know this from experience. I never understood why kids seem to mistake my pant legs for napkins or why you happen to sit on THE chair with a half eaten, leftover strawberry. Make it easier on yourself and stick with resilient fabrics that are easy to wash. Try the Rayon and Viscose.
Simple: Lastly, I try to have a variety of simple solids for easy pairing with “louder” accessories. I also have go-to shoes that are perfect for going to the park, running errands, or shopping. Occasionally I do go with prints because they are great at hiding sidewalk chalk hand-smudges or popsicle residue ;).
All in all, you will find that dresses are current, playful, comfortable, breezy, easy to accessorize and totally affordable! I’ve attached the links to these dresses that are all UNDER $40! (click on the dress name or picture for the link)

In motherhood there is a lot of sacrificing, but you don’t have to sacrifice your comfort or personality when it comes to working on the job!
